Implants

Dental implants substitute single teeth, which can be combined with bridges or prothetics. The implants are screws, made of 100% titanium, which take over the function of the dental root. Titanium is biocompatible and allergy-free. The implant screws are fixed to the jaw bone in a surgical procedure. After the healing process, the crown is placed, with the use of a screw joint or dental cement.

The advantages of implants is, that none of the surrounding healthy teeth have to be prepared for the fixation. Furthermore, implants are preventing further bone loss.

Prothetics supported by implants offer better stability for chewing and speaking, which brings confidence and comfort for the patient.

For long-term success, an optimized dental hygiene programm is necessary and regular visits with the dental hygienist are mandatory.

Various studies showed, that with intensive care, implants can be obtained for a long time: the success rate is at 95%, after ten years.

Risk factors of using implants are: levelled off diabetes mellitus, endocarditis, organ transplant, bisphosphonate therapy (in connection with osteoporosis), chemo therapy and radiation therapy, untreated paradontitis, smoking (over 10 cigarettes per day) and insufficient dental hygiene.
